Dr. Sammy Ayeh, a Presidential Aide for Government Communications, has emphasized the critical role of strong advisory structures in Ghana’s development, stating that they are essential to achieving sustainable economic growth.
Speaking on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo programme, Dr. Ayeh praised President John Dramani Mahama for the composition of his advisory team, describing it as a group made up of accomplished and respected leaders from diverse backgrounds. He noted that many members of the advisory body are not career politicians but experienced professionals, including prominent industrialists such as Sam Jonah.
According to Dr. Ayeh, the inclusion of industry experts and researchers demonstrates that President Mahama has gone beyond the traditional economic oversight committees to assemble a team capable of offering practical and research-based guidance. He said this approach reflects the President’s vision and priorities for the next three years of his administration.
Dr. Ayeh recalled President Mahama’s remarks during his swearing-in ceremony, where he declared that “Ghana is open for business.” He explained that this statement aligns with Chapter Six of the 1992 Constitution, which outlines the Directive Principles of State Policy. These principles, he noted, define the target outcomes of government policy in key areas such as education, the economy, business, and politics.
He further explained that the Constitution mandates governments to develop and implement sound policies that promote economic development, stimulate growth, and create a supportive environment for businesses to thrive.
Dr. Ayeh concluded by expressing confidence that the President’s choice of advisors and policy direction will help position Ghana for sustained development and economic transformation.
