The Executive Director of the Africa Center for Health Research and Analysis, Dr. Thomas Anaba, has stressed the need for effective communication and professionalism in both public health education and policy formulation.
Speaking on Bryt FM’s Adekyee Mu Nsem morning show with Kwamina Sam Bainey, Dr. Anaba said communicating scientific research to the public requires skill, training, and the ability to simplify medical findings into terms people can easily understand.
He observed that while people pay attention to advertisements like those for alcoholic beverages, the same strategy can be applied to make health and research communication impactful.
Dr. Anaba also highlighted language diversity as a barrier to effectively disseminating scientific information to the general public.
Touching on policymaking, he cautioned that if Parliament and the ministries lack professionals with the right expertise, laws and policies risk being poorly formulated.
He argued that Parliament should be a mixture of professionals from different fields to ensure that laws reflect the country’s needs, while ministries should engage knowledgeable experts to support ministers in drafting sound policies.
