There was drama at the Public Cemetery of Koforidua, the Eastern Regional Capital after Municipal Environmental Officers and gravediggers blocked a family from burying a corpse allegedly infected with the coronavirus.
The incident occured on Sunday during the burial of Madam Janet Nyarkoa.
Mybrytfmonline.com has gathered that the bereaved family members secured a burial permit at the cost of Ghc600 from the New Juaben South Municipal Assembly but was revealed that the deceased -Janet Nyarkoa was killed by Coronavirus.
The New Juaben South Municipal Environmental Officer, therefore, directed the bereaved family to send the body straight from the mortuary to the cemetery.
However, the family sent the corpse to SDA Church for burial service. The burial service ended abruptly due to pressure on the family by furious environmental officers who were kept waiting at the cemetery to help the burial of the corpse.
The angry environmental officers and gravediggers locked the cemetery gate preventing the family from burying the corpse.
This created a chaos at the cemetery. The bereaved family was directed to report themselves to the Police which they obliged and reported at the Central Police Station before the burial was allowed.
