A 20-year-old driver, Ahonyo Francis has been convicted to a fine of Gh¢1,200.00 by the Asamankese Circuit Court for careless and inconsiderate driving contrary to section 3 of Act 683/2004 as Amended by Act 761/2008.
Ahonyo Francis, the accused, in default will be sentenced to 20 months imprisonment.
He was also convicted to a fine of ¢1,200.00 for negligently causing harm to one Isaac Saah, aged 30 in Asamankese, and in default, the accused will go into prison for ten months.
The court also fined the accused ¢300.00 for driving without a license, contrary to section 53 of Act 683/2004 which was amended by Act 761/2008, and in default, the accused will be sentenced to three months imprisonment.
Ahonyo Francis was lastly fined ¢300.00 for driving at the age of 20 which is unlawful, contrary to section 65(1)(C) of Act 683/2004, amended in 2008/Act 761, All sentences to run concurrently.
The accused was arrested in Asamankese Hospital Road when he was driving Mazda Demio with registration number GX 3639-17 and negligently knocked down a pedestrian, Isaac Saah who was crossing the road.
The pedestrian was injured and was rushed to Asamankese Government Hospital for treatment and was later referred to St.Joseph Hospital in Koforidua but both proved futile and the victim is currently receiving treatment at a Herbal center.
