Executive Secretary of Anchoring Democracy Advocacy Movement Ghana ADAM-GH, Mr Azubila Emmanuel Abdul-Salam expressed worry over the trend in which our justices system is going in the country and the public perception about our democracy which over the years has achieved a title as “a beacon of Democracy in Africa” is gradually losing it credibility and bragging rights which must be a major concern to all Ghanaians.
H sated that, “When I sit down and look at the way and manner families mourn the departed souls during campaign in Assin North, the way people suffered various degree of injuries, money that the country lost in conducting the Assin North by-election during this hard times our country economy, the unnecessary political tension created and time wasted for this needles and political verdict from our supreme court, one may not be far from right to say that the Justices system currently in Ghana is a curse to Ghanaians than good. Laws are meant for people and therefore, Judges must consider the effect of such political judgments and public reactions with regards to the integrity of the Supreme court.
ADAM-GH as a civil society organization that anchors proper democratic principles, has taken sober reflection of the whole issue, considering the public opinion, traditional leaders advice and men of God and even some High Court Judges opinion about the most unfortunate judgment that nearly throw this country into darkness, I think the justice system in Ghana has lost it values and credibility which is a major concern to all Ghanaians. Listening to the unfortunate comment by the President of the Republic, the state Attorney and some senior members of this government prejudicial statement and the belligerent actions of the supreme court, there’s no undeniable fact that our justices system in Ghana has been soiled and are now acting as “yes men” to the president and government officials.
We as Ghanaians, who own a duty to protect the integrity of our country and all institutions, and continue to see Ghana Democracy as our bragging rights, we must rise up as a nation to resist the oppressors rule and restore the dignity of our country.
Ghana has grown beyond having such a porous justice system who are so stooge to their appointing authority.
As a CSO we are adding our voice to many Ghanaians who are advising the government to drop the so-called criminal charges agains Hon GYAKYE QUAYSON, the second time elected member of Parliament of Assin North. The Attorney General should take key interest in the 2020 Auditors General report where Judges fraudulently auction 2 years old and 3 years old Toyota Land cruisers to themselves. This is more criminal than the needles Hon.GYAKYE QUAYSON case. Judges that are supposed to help fight corruption can not engage in corrupt practices robbing the nation in broad daylight and turn out to be showing interest in a mediocre”.
