The Ghana Meteorological Agency says harmattan is expected to intensify across the country beginning today Wednesday, January 20, 2021, and continue into the weekend.
A statement issued on Tuesday by the agency signed by Micheal Padi -Senior Meteorologist and Head of CAFO further stated that “dust has been raised from the source region (around Chad) and is expected to be adverted into the country to deteriorate surface visibility.
It said, due to the influx of the dry and dusty continental winds, the Northern half is expected to be drier with a relative humidity of less than 20% and below 50% over parts of the Southern sector.
According to the Agency, this intrusion of dryness increases the probability of fire outbreaks hence cautions handling of naked fire.
Also, drivers are being advised to be cautious due to reduced visibility.
