Koforidua, Ghana – In a concerted effort to combat the rising tide of misinformation, disinformation, and malinformation in Ghana, DW Akademie successfully organized a three-day Train-the-Trainer (TTT) workshop on Media and Information Literacy (MIL) in Koforidua. The event took place from Wednesday, September 24 to Friday, September 26, 2025, at the Capital View Hotel.

The workshop aimed to build the capacity of participants to identify and respond to various forms of information disorder, while promoting the production and dissemination of accurate, trustworthy content across media and digital platforms.
Facilitated by Ms. Benewaa Abena Fosu and Dr. Martin Ntem Thompson, the interactive sessions focused on equipping trainers with the knowledge and tools to educate others in their communities and professional networks. Participants explored a wide range of topics, including:

Digital security and privacy awareness
Verification of online content and fact-checking techniques
Understanding data and digital footprints
The ethics of media production and consumption
The training was part of DW Akademie’s broader commitment to strengthening media literacy in Ghana and across the region. By empowering individuals with critical thinking and verification skills, the initiative seeks to reduce the harmful effects of false and misleading information online—particularly in an age where digital platforms play a central role in shaping public opinion.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, the facilitators emphasized the need for media literacy to be integrated into public education and community engagement, highlighting its importance in preserving democratic values and social cohesion.

Participants expressed enthusiasm about the training and pledged to pass on the knowledge in their respective communities, schools, and organizations.
This workshop marks another milestone in DW Akademie’s ongoing efforts to promote a more informed and resilient digital society in Ghana.
