The Member of Parliament for Suame Constituency, Hon Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu has disclosed that the Electric levy (E-levy) is in operation as the bill is passed and assented to by the President.
According to him, the bill is passed and assented by the President into law and starts operation automatically.
“Anyone who falls foul of that law can be punished severely,’’ Hon Osei Kyei-Mensah said during a press conference with the Parliamentary press corps on Friday, April 22, 2022.
He indicated that upon the assent of the President the bill if Parliament has not postponed the operation, immediately after the assent comes into operation.
“If you fall foul to it, you can be prosecuted for falling foul to the bill that has been asserted by the President,” said Hon Osei Kyei-Mensah.
Hon Osei Kyei-Mensah stated that the E-levy bill is in operation adding that necessary structures are being put in place now.
But on Tuesday, April 19, 2022, the opposition MPs applied to the apex court to block the commencement of the e-levy deductions.
The hearing of the application will take place on May 4.
Meanwhile, Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta earlier revealed that the implementation of the e-levy would start in May this year.
