Ghanaians have been urged to support the e-levy tax introduce by the government in the 2022 budget to help in achieving the development we need as a country.
Aspiring Fanteakwa North Constituency chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Ampem Darko-Amponsah indicated that government can deliver on its promises to transform the broken economy inherited by the NPP in 2017.
Speaking on Bryt FM Ebesi Sen political show on Thursday with Kwabena Nyarko Abronoma, Nana Ampem Darko-Amponsah retreated the Akufo-Addo led government has initiated lots of policies and initiatives that require enough funds to execute them well.
He added that mobile transactions has increased tremendously over the past few years due to pragmatic measures by the government and therefore needs to make good use of activities that are being carried out online.
“Abronoma, do you know lots of people now do transactions through mobile apps so it is the best avenue to ensure that all persons eligible to pay taxes are brought on board to widen the tax net. Less than 3% of Ghanaians pay taxes in this country according to the Finance minister, so the government needs to develop diverse ways of ensuring many people oblige to their tax obligations” he stressed.
The 2022 budget statement presented by the Finance minister, Ken Ofori-Atta proposed a 1.75 tax on mobile money and mobile banking transactions which has attracted many criticisms.
Meanwhile, the opposition National Democratic Congress rep on the show, Ahmed Agbenyadzi dispute the analysis of the NPP Communicator describing the tax as an additional burden on the ordinary Ghanaian.
