Eastern Regional Minister, Hon. Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey, supported by the regional leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) led by Regional Chairman Dr. Mark Oliver Kevor, is steadily overseeing the seamless confirmation of President John Dramani Mahama’s nominees for Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executive (MMDCE) positions in the region.
The confirmation processes, which began on Monday, has so far seen the successful one -touch endorsement of 10 out of the 33 nominees. In many of the Assemblies, Presiding Members were also elected.
On Thursday, May 9, three additional nominees were confirmed.
Solomon Kusi Brako, the youngest nominee in the region, was confirmed as the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Birim Central with 25 out of 27 valid votes cast.
Taaju Rahim was confirmed as the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Birim South, securing 93.75% of the total votes.
At Achiase District, President Mahama’s nominee, Samuel Owusu Brako, received an overwhelming 100% endorsement from Assembly Members.
On Wednesday, the nominee for Atiwa East District, Ernest Owusu Ntim, secured a 100 percent approval. At Atiwa West, Johnson Amo also secured a 100 percent endorsement through a secret ballot, after an initial decision by the Assembly members to confirm him by popular acclamation was overrulled by a judge present at the meeting.
At the Kwaebibirem Municipality, Emmanuel Kofi Nti, popularly known as Teacher Nti, was overwhelmingly endorsed. Out of 57 votes cast, he secured 55 Yes votes (96.5%) with just two dissenting votes.
At Denkyembour District, Hon. Ahmed Umar Tutu was also confirmed with a 100 percent unanimous vote.
Nominees for Kwahu South, Kwahu East, and Nkawkaw had earlier secured approvals in previous days, bringing the total number of confirmed nominees to 10 out of 33.
Speaking at the ceremonies, Eastern Regional Minister Hon. Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey reiterated government’s commitment to the Reset Agenda, emphasizing that the transformation of Ghana must begin with competent leadership at the local government level.
She encouraged Assembly Members across the region to continue giving their full support to President Mahama’s nominees to accelerate grassroots development.
The confirmation exercises are being supervised by the Electoral Commission of Ghana.
