The Asamankese Circuit Court Presided over His Honour Abass Abubakari Adams has sentenced a 22-year old motorbike (Okada) rider to 18 years imprisonment in hard Labour for robbery and assault.
The accused, Kwame Isaac, popularly known Amount pleaded guilty to the charges, Contrary to section 149 of Act 29/60 as amended by the criminal code amendment Act 2003(Act 646) and Section 84 of Act 29/60.
According to Prosecution officer DSP Christian T. Aproti said the complainant in this case Okyere Darko, age 21 is a driver and a
resident of Abaam whilst the accused Kwame Isaac @ Amount,
age 22 is an okada rider and a resident of Asuom.
The complainant owns
an unregistered Black Haojue Motorbike Gh¢5,000.00 which he gave same to his brother Festus Osei,the
Victim in this case to use for commercial purpose.
On 13″ May, 2023 about 7:30am, the accused hired the services of the said Festus Osei with his motorbike from Abaam to Asuom to collect money from a friend.
Unfortunately the accused did not meet his friend so he dirccted the motor rider Festus Osei to take him back to Abaam so on reaching a section of the road at Abompe Junction near Abaam,the accused told Festus to take him to his parents in a nearby village of which the rider obliged.
Whilst returning from the
village, the rider told the accused to get down from the motorbike so
that he could help him push the motorbike across a pot hole along
the path so the accused got down but did not help him.
The victim managed to push the motorbike across the pothole and told the accused to jump on the motorbike for them to go.
The Accused picked a Club Nearby and assaulted the victim and he fell unconscious and the accused took the motorbike away to Akyem Tontro near Akyem New Tafo.
On 16/5/2023 the case was reported to police whilst the victcim was
admited at St. Dominic Hospital -Akwatia receiving medical treatment, the accused was arrested by the New Tafo Police and was later sent to Court for prosecution.
