The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) in the Eastern Region received a total of 2,276 complaints from water and Electricity customers across the region from January to December 2019.
Out of the total complaints, 2,240 were resolved and the complaints include Billing, Payment, Quality of Service, Metering and Unlawful disconnection.
Speaking at a Public sensitization program in Asamankese, A senior complaints officer in the Regional office, Kesewaa Apenteng-Addo said 31 customers who were wrongly billed to a tune of Gh¢51,615.74 had their accounts credited with Gh¢31,191.19.
She added that 179 customers representing 7.9% of the total complaints received bills for the first time after two years of meter installation.
According to Kesewaa Apenteng-Addo, the regional office received and resolved 418 complaints representing 18.4% from a WhatsApp platform is created for customers for urgent reports.
Giving the breakdown of the complaints, she said reports on quality service topped on the list with 1,365 complaints fellow by metering, 114, Billing-731, payment – 42, unlawful disconnection – 24 respectively.
In all, a total of 1,874 complaints were for the Electricity Company of Ghana and the Ghana Water Company Received 402 complaints in 2019.
