The Abuakwa North Municipal Assembly in the Eastern Region of Ghana has presented over thousand eight hundred (1800) out of twenty five thousand oil palm seedlings to the the Agricultural Department for onwards distribution to some registered and selected three thousand five hundred (3,500) farmers in the enclave on May 15th, 2023 at the forecourt of the Agric Department office in Akyem New Tafo.
Honourable Alhaji Umar Babs Bodinga, Municipal Chief Executive, explained that, the presentation forms part of Government’s planting for Export and Rural Development (PERD) policy of which Abuakwa North accepted coconut and oil palm plantations.
He added that, writing to the Minerals Commission through the Ministry of Local Government for the oil palm seedlings was necessitated by the farmers’ quest to grow them as over six communities in the Municipality with oil palm refineries, lack raw materials (palm nuts) to produce their oil.
He further admonished all who have farmlands available to register with the Agric Department to benefit from the policy as the Nana Akufo-Addo led administration is commitment to cash crop productions for food, jobs and rural development.
Mr Nartey Anthony, Municipal Agric Director, on his part, thanked the Government through the Municipal Assembly and urged all the farmers to plant the seedlings to achieve the purpose they were presented for.
He further assured the Municipal Assembly of their supervisory role to make the module a success in the enclave.
