Abuakwa North Municipal Assembly has handed over two hundred (200) pieces of LED street light bulbs and four hundred and eighty (480) gas stoves to all the twenty-four (24) elected Assembly Members and Government Appointees in the Municipality for onward distribution and installation in the communities
Bright Senior High School was also given 10 of the LED street light bulbs as appreciation for their immense contribution to Education in the area, and to improve security.
The Ministry of Energy provided the gas stove in particular as part of climate change action.
About two thousand (2000) pieces of the LPG stoves project are being piloted in three MDAs- Abuakwa North, Kwaebibrem and Denkyembour.
The MCE Alhaji Umar Babs Bodinga said each Assembly Member and Government Appointee had ten (10) and five (5) pieces of the LED street light bulbs respectively with (20) gas stoves each.
He added that the LED street light bulbs presented to the Assembly Members and the Government Appointees are aimed at improving illumination to enhance security in the Municipality under the theme “Abuakwa North Shines Against Crime”.
The Municipal Chief Executive continued that, the police command and other second-cycle institutions, both public and private will also take delivery of the LED street light bulbs.
The MCE stressed, Akufo-Addo-led New Patriotic Party’s administration is committed to the fight against deforestation hence, the introduction of Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG) usage and sensitization.
“The Abuakwa North Municipal Assembly is one of the three Municipal and District Assemblies (MDAs) in the Eastern Region that has benefited from the pilot project of these gas stoves initiative. The Nana Akufo-Addo led Government will consolidate gains made in the Greening Ghana afforestation project by discouraging the usage of charcoal which depletes our forests”. Honourable Alhaji Umar Babs Bodinga said.
He further submitted that the Assembly Members were directed to submit names, digital addresses and Ghana cards of twenty (20) selected beneficiaries in their Electoral Areas eighty per cent (80%) of whom should be females for tracking.
He admonished all the Assembly Members to make sure the stoves were distributed to the right beneficiaries as captured in the data.
