Honourable Gifty Twum-Ampofo popularly called Hajia Kande, Member of Parliament for Abuakwa North Constituency also the Deputy Minister of Education incharge of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), has toured Basic Schools in her enclave on the 17th November, 2023 and presented learning materials to KG 1&2 and Basic 1 pupils together with drinks and biscuits and school uniforms to over three hundred (300) Basic 1 to 6 pupils of the traditional Basic Schools .
Amongst the schools visited were, Akyem Kukuratumi M/A Basic,Akyem New-Tafo Besease Zion Basic, Akyem Osiem R/C Basic, Ofori Panin Basic School and Akyem Aboabo M/A Basic.
In addition to the above presentation, Honourable Gifty Twum-Ampofo, donated toiletries and disinfectants to the Ofori Panin Basic School, Unit For Children With Special Needs.
According to the hardworking Legislator, she did this exercise as a Deputy Minister of Education in the Western Region at the beginning of the academic year but as an MP, she has to visit the schools to have first hand information of whatever is happening on the grounds in her enclave and design strategies with stakeholders and relevant offices to improve or deal with situations going forward being it logistical, infrastructural, humanitarian or administration etc.
“I did this same exercise as a Deputy Minister of Education in the Western Region in the beginning of the academic year. As a Member of Parliament, I have to visit schools in my Constituency to present this learning materials, school uniforms, drinks and biscuits and to motivate them. You know that, taking care of children with special needs involves a lot so I added these toiletries and disinfectants to the Ofori Panin Special Basic School.
Secondly, my visit is to have to have first hand knowledge of everything that transpire in the schools for redress if any to improve the academic processes in my Constituency”. Honourable Gifty Twum-Ampofo said.
She further admonished the pupils to factor their books first in all that they do, be regular and punctual to school, be obedient and disciplined and stay away from all social vices to be good adults in the future for socio-economic development of the country.
Madam Abena Gyamerah, Abuakwa North Municipal Director of Education, who was part of the visit, eulogized Honourable Gifty Twum-Ampofo, the Municipal Assembly and the Central Government for their continuous support in the enclave as far as ensuring quality education is concerned.
She added that, the quality of education has improved tremendously in the Municipality despite the increasing enrollment which is attributed to the national and international awards won by schools in the Municipality and continuous public engagements with parents and stakeholders on the need to get their wards in school.
She admonished parents to bring their children to school, support them with their basic needs and encourage them to learn at home when they return from school.
Madam Abena Gyamerah further pledged her outfit’s support in ensuring quality education in the Municipality for socio-economic development of Ghana as a whole.
