Students of Adjena Senior High Technical School in Asuogyaman district in Eastern region attend nature’s call on deplorable trench latrines.
The latrines are located behind the boys dormitory.
According to the students, the condition of the toilet facility is scary especially during the night due to absence of light.
They said snakes and other dangerous reptiles continue to threaten students at night when attending nature’s call.
Due to the pungent smell, students remove their uniforms and hang it outside before visiting the latrine.
Female students also complained their toilet facility at the dormitory is also in bad condition creating serious hygiene problems.
They say many often get candidiasis as a result of the toilet facility.
Adjena Senior High Technical School in Asuogyaman district in Eastern region was established by the Ghana Education service in 1979 as an experimental junior secondary school on the then Adjena united middle school premises.
The school was upgraded in September, 1984 into a fully fledged secondary technical school.
Free Senior High School policy has increased enrollment to about 2000 students.
However, the school continue to face many infrastructural challenges including lack of ICT Laboratory, proper toilet facilities, inadequate classrooms and dormitory facilities.
But for the intervention of Member of Parliament for Asuogyaman Thomas Ampem Nyarko who is constructing three-units self contained teachers bungalow for the school, the school had only one bungalow on campus occupied by the Headmistress of the school .
The situation affected effective supervision in the evening as some students sneak out to town to engage in various misconducts.
