Residents of Akpo-Yiwase, a farming community in the Yilo Krobo Municipality of the Eastern Region, have expressed their deepest concern over lack of social amenities.
The community has been deprived of developmental projects, including access to potable water, mobile networks, educational infrastructure, healthcare facilities, road networks, and many others.
The residents have, therefore, appealed to the ruling government, the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, and the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) to immediately address their demands.
According to them, the government must consider their indigence appeal as a matter of urgency to help improve the quality of life and well-being of their community.
The headmaster for Yiwase M/A Primary School, Christian Ashimatey, expressed that pupils are schooling under trees due to an uncompleted building that was abandoned over the years in the municipality.
The headmaster stated that the uncompleted school building, which was allegedly funded by the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund), has been abandoned and become dilapidated, posing a threat to the safety of the pupils.
He added that the social amenities are crucial for creating a vibrant, healthy, and sustainable environment. He passionately called on the government, individuals, stakeholders, and philanthropists to come to their aid with social amenities, including a school building, desks, a mobile phone network, teacher’s bungalows, and potable water.
The Assembly Member for the community, Hon. John Akuffo, lamented bitterly about the deplorable state of their roads.
Hon. John Akuffo pledged that he will continue to fight for the good people of Yiwase at the assembly level to improve their living standard. He articulated that he will push for mobile phone networks, access to potable water, and school infrastructure.
In a follow-up, the Yilo Krobo Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Francis Addo Akumatey, in an interview with Nhyiraba Solomon Nartey, affirmed the assembly has included rural development in their action plan.
Hon. Francis Addo averred that the challenges hindering development of farming communities in the municipality will be solved in due time. He called on the people of Yiwase to exercise as the assembly has developed measures to address their demands.
