The Akwamuman COVID-19 Response Team established by Omanhene of Akwamu Traditional Area Odeneho Kwafo Akoto III is embarking on intensive Public Education and Sensitization exercise in Communities in the traditional area.
Since April 16, 2020, Odeneho Kwafo Akoto III has been leading the team to carry out public education and sensitization as the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) shirks its responsibility for lack of funding and logistics.
Some communities visited by the Akwamuman Covid-19 Response Team are Apegusu, Mpakadan Aboasa, and Nnudu/Kwanyako, Akrade-Senchi-Atimpoku, Adjena-Adumasa-Gyakiti among others.
The team is joined by Nananom, the District Chief Executive, Akosombo Divisional Police Command under the leadership of Chief Superintendent Damoah, the District Information Officer, Hon. Thomas Ampem Nyarko (MP, Asuogyaman Constituency) and Hon Paul Asare Ansah (NPP Parliamentary candidate for Asuogyaman constituency).
Residents of the communities were taken through several precautionary measures needed to prevent the spread of the coronavirus disease in the area.
The team highlighted the importance of physical and Social distancing, wearing of nose masks, staying at least 2 meters apart, regular hand washing, use of hand sanitizers, and the need for them to eating balanced diet and fruits rich in vitamin C to boost their immune system. Residents were made to understand that there is no cure for coronavirus, for now, therefore, they shouldn’t be deceived by any person who claims to have herbal concoction the cures the disease.
Odeneho Kwafo Akoto III urged Nananom and opinion leaders to continue with the education exercise, help enforce the social distancing protocols at all times, and ensure strict adherence from the residents.
He cautioned residents to desist from irresponsible behaviors that could endanger their lives and those of others around them, adding that COVID19 is real.
The team shares quantities of locally made nose masks to members of the communities wherever visited.
The Eastern Region has recorded 51 confirmed cases of Coronavirus out of national tally of 1042 as of April 19, 2020. As of April 22, the national figure has increased to 1154 but it has not been made known if case count in the region has increased.
Most of the cases in the Eastern region were recorded among construction workers working on the Tema to Akosombo-Mpakadan Railway Project.
Akwamumanhene Odeneho Kwafo Akoto III urged residents to cooperate with health and security agencies particularly on contact tracing and sample taking to ensure that these persons are isolated, tested, and monitored to prevent the spread of COVID19.
Odeneho Kwafo Akoto III commends Nananom, the District Assembly, security agencies, residents, Health Officials, all front line workers including NADMO and donors for their commitment towards the fight, and called on the general public for more financial/relief support to enable the team meets the increasing demand for PPEs especially nose masks, tissues, hand sanitizers, food items, etc, within the Asuogyaman community and its environs.
He also said he sees this gesture as a sense of responsibility to intensify education on the COVID-19 pandemic in the communities to support the government’s efforts at protecting lives in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic.
