The Abuakwa North Municipal Assembly in the Eastern Region is implementing the “No mask No entry” directive for traders and customers at the Akyem New Tafo market center.
According to the Assembly, henceforth, traders and Customers without a nose mask will not be allowed to enter into the market.
This is to minimize exposure of food items to coronavirus out of droplets from mouths and nose of both customers and traders.
The Abuakwa North Municipal Assembly has additional adopted other measures to decongest the market.
This measure is the closure of the road from Ghana Commercial Bank office at Akyem New Tafo to the Funeral grounds to serve as a market.
The road would be blocked to vehicles every market day (Wednesday and Sunday) to allow relocation of some market women in the main Akyem New Tafo market onto the road to sell.
Abuakwa North Municipality has not recorded confirmed case of Coronavirus but its neighboring District, Fanteakwa North has recorded a case. The Eastern Region, in general, has recorded 51 confirmed cases of Coronavirus out of national tally of 1042 as of April 19, 2020. As of April 22, the national figure has increased to 1154 but it has not been made known if case count in the region has increased.
Most of the cases in the Eastern region were recorded among construction workers working on the Tema to Akosombo-Mpakadan Railway Project.
