The Assembly Member for Asikasu Electoral Area, in the New Juaben North Municipality of the Eastern Region, Benjamin Narh, has initiated measures to block fleeing residents from the Krobo enclave to the community.
Residents of Asikasu are predominantly Krobos. The community shares boundaries with many Krobo communities under Yilo Krobo Municipality. There are many access routes to both Yilo and Lower Manya Krobo through the community.
Mybrytfmonline.com has gathered that some residents living in Lower Manya Krobo area but with families in the Asikasu community on Monday started to flee to the community to seek refuge after rumor of possible lockdown of the Krobo enclave over Coronavirus outbreak in the area.
But according to the Assembly Member for Asikesu Electoral Area, Benjamin Narh, announcements have been made to residents not to accept any person to their homes for the meantime until the coronavirus pandemic recedes.
According to him, together with the Unit Committee, they have been mounting surveillance to ensure that the directive complies.
He explained that recently some three persons from Odumase with family members in the community arrived but residents were apprehensive therefore the people left out of seeming stigma.
As of April 18, 2020, Eastern Region has recorded 51 cases of coronavirus out of the National tally of 843.
Apart from Fanteakwa North which has recorded a confirmed case, the rest are being recorded among construction workers in Lower Manya Krobo municipality.
There have been calls for an immediate lockdown of the region by many individuals and groups including the Ghana Coalition of NGOs in the Health-Eastern regional branch but the Regional Minister Eric Kwakye Darfour says the calls are premature given that most of the cases recorded are confined. He however said, the situation is being monitored by the Regional Security Council and that lockdown could not be ruled out when the time is ripped for President Akufo-Addo who is commander in chief of the Ghana Arm Forces, to do so.
