In a demonstration of proactive community engagement and support, the District Chief Executive of the Asuogyaman District Assembly, Hon. Samuel Kwame Agyekum, led a team of officials on October 15, 2023 to engage flood affected communities in the district.
This team included representatives from the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), the Ambulance Services, and the District Planning Officer.
The aim of this endeavor was to interact with and uplift community members affected by recent events, particularly the flooding that occurred due to the Akosombo Hydroelectric Dam spillage.
In a concerted effort to provide solace and encouragement, the team visited three communities: Mamakope, Battorline, and Dzidzokope.
During these interactions, open dialogues were held with the affected community members.
The discussions encompassed various aspects related to the spillage, with officials offering clarifications and guidance where needed.
The team also extended their visit to five different churches in the Atimpoku and Budukrom electoral areas.
These places of worship were Apostles Revelations Society (ARS) in Mama Kope, The Church of Pentecost – Royal Assembly in Mama Kope, The Apostolic Church, Ghana in Dzidzokope, New Covenant Apostolic Church in Dzidzokope, and Christ Revival International Ministry, also located in Dzidzokope.
The primary purpose of these church visits was to provide support and encouragement to the congregations who have been affected by the recent flood incidents.
Community members were reassured of ongoing relief efforts to mitigate their suffering.
Notably, the water level at the time of the engagement was measured at 277.24 feet.
This proactive approach by the Asuogyaman Secretariat demonstrates a commitment to both community well-being and engagement in the face of challenging situations.
Meanwhile, having arrived in Ghana Sunday evening from his 4-day official visit to the United States ,President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, will on Monday, 16th October 2023, visit the districts severely hit by the floods occasioned by the spillage of the Akosombo Dam.
