Globally, 175 million children of pre-primary age are not enrolled. Countries where high numbers of children not in pre-primary education continue miss a critical investment opportunity and are at risk of suffering deep inequalities from the start.
In the low-income countries, only 1 in 5 young children are enrolled in pre-primary education.
Ghana’s early childhood education(ECE) Policy launched in 2021 seeks to strengthen ECE to ensure the physical, cognitive , psycho-social and emotional growth of all 4- 5-year-old children including the disadvantaged, vulnerable and those with disabilities and special needs children.
Apaaso, a remote farming community in Asuogyaman district in Eastern region has existed without access to a school.
Children of school going age sit home until they are grown and able to walk long distance to access early childhood education in far Communities.
As part of effort by Member Parliament for Asuogyaman Thomas Ampem Nyarko to create access to pre-primary education in communities without,has initiated a KG school in a makeshift structure and hired a teacher to provide early childhood education services to the children until the school is absorbed by Ghana Education Service.
Some 35 school going age children have been enrolled.
The MP Thomas Ampem Nyarko visited the community to monitor progress so far. He assured to mobilize resources to build befitting classroom block that will accommodate the children to at least class three.
He said the KG school in Apaaso brings onboard a number of communities he has created access to early childhood education.
