The Municipal Chief Executive nominee for Birim Central Municipality in the Eastern region, Victoria Adu has been rejected by the assembly.
The nominee failed to secure two-thirds majority votes during her confirmation on Monday, October 4, 2021.
The second round of voting is expected to be held in the coming days.
She becomes the second nominee to be rejected so far.
The DCE nominee for Achiase, Richmond Kofi Amponsah Adjabeng was the first casualty, however, was confirmed on Sunday, October 3, 2021, through alleged violence and manipulation of the election.
Assembly member for Dwirase Anamase Electoral Area in Achiase District, Daniel Yeboah was beaten mercilessly by some armed police officers.
According to the Assembly Member, he and some of his colleagues raised concern over the attempt to manipulate the second-round election hence deliberately held in a small venue on Sunday with the presence of armed police officers.
“The second election was held in a secluded venue instead of the conference Hall of the Assembly which I and other Assembly members raised concern but we were heckled by one Francis Gyan, a deputy Eastern Regional Organizer of the ruling New Patriotic Party who was present and attempted to throw me out of the venue but I resisted”
He alleged that the deputy Regional Organizer and some armed police officers brought from an unknown area to the venue attacked and beat him mercilessly just after he stepped out to make a phone call.
“They beat me mercilessly by slapping and kicking him on the abdomen”.
He was later rescued and rushed to Akyem Oda government hospital where he was admitted, examined, treated, and discharged.
No arrest has been made by Police.
