Two persons are reported dead in a canoe accident on Birim River in Akyem Wankyi in Eastern Region.
Information gathered indicate the canoe was carrying thirteen (13) passengers who were being ferries across the Birim River but capsized in the middle of the river which has flooded the area.
Ten(10) of the victims managed to swim to safety, one was retrieved dead, other missing while one rescued.
Police and NADMO officials were at the scene to assist the rescue operation.
The body has been deposited at the morgue while the victims sent a health facility.
Water level in the Birim River has risen significantly causing the river to overflow its banks submerging smaller bridges on the river.
The situation has compelled many farmers and inhabitants to use canoe to cross the river to their farms and other communities.
