The Christian Fetor- Tsormana ministries of the Presbyterian church of Ghana founded by Rev. Christian Fetor Tsormana have donated educational materials to Tinkong Presby Basic School in the Akuapem north municipality in the Eastern region.
The donated materials were a hundred and fifty school uniforms, exercise books, drawing books, storybooks, and writing materials such as pens and pencils.
Rev. Christian Fetor Tsormana said, “The donation comes as a result of a research his ministry conducted about students’ absenteeism in the school which indicated that most students absent themselves from school due to lack of school uniforms, which discouraged most students from attending to school over the past years”.
“He said the motivation behind the donation is that we think ministering is not only about preaching in church but making an impact in the lives of the people around us and therefore we think that this is one of the ways we can make that impact on the benefit of the society we live,” he said.
The donation is a big relief to the school and parents who were struggling to afford such education essentials for their children.
Tinkong Presby Primary school has been in existence since 1974 with the help of the Presbyterian Church and enterprise life insurance after it departed from the shift system with methodist school in the same community but was without a junior high school.
As a result, students who completed their primary education have to trek miles away to continue their junior high education in other schools.
Mrs. Dorothy Aboagye Okyere, the headmistress of the school, explained that the commencement of a junior high block eight years ago to accommodate the students is still at the footing level due to lack of funds to continue the projects, as a result, a mission house for the church has been converted into the classroom to accommodate the form one’s and subsequently, the form two’s as a temporal means of hosting the JHS students.
She said, ” when I was posted here in 2021, I realized that the school did not have JHS and so the primary school was feeding the JHS in town so decided to start the JHS project here but we have challenges pertaining to the classrooms so with the help of the church they were able to get us a temporal accommodation for form one’s and we wrote proposals to the assembly, NGO’s and other departments as well but unfortunately we couldn’t get any help so when we started most of the children told their parents that there are no classrooms to accommodate them so they will move to the existing JHS in town”.
The junior high school students which are now in a temporal classroom building comprised of a population of 36 students, 20 in form two and 16 in form one are not only challenged with classrooms but also four students on every dual desk during instructional hours.
She, therefore, called for support from the assembly, NGOs, individuals, and philanthropists to come to the aid of the school.
The residence pastor for the Presbyterian Church of Ghana Emmanuel assembly Tinkong, Rev. King George also lamented that over 70 years of the school existence there has not been any proper infrastructural development, this he said is retarding academic work in the community.
