There was chaos at the Nkurakan Police barrier Tuesday as Okada riders and mourners in procession to cemetery clashed with Police over breach of private burial directive.
The okada riders and the bereaved families were en route to bury their colleague who died through a crash at Nkrukan in Yilo Krobo Municipality of the Eastern Region.
The rider died a week into the Okada operation.
The okada riders in the community numbering over 30 clad in red and black dresses riding carelessly ahead of a hearse being followed by dozens of mourners in procession toward the cemetery.
Upon reaching the Police checkpoint, they were stopped and blocked by Police for not adhering to Covid-19 protocols.
This created confrontations between the mourners and Police for many minutes infuriating the hearse driver who attempted to dump the body in the coffin at the Police barrier since he had another appointment.
This created a chaotic scene and gridlock but upon further negotiation by the leaders of the mourners, police allowed passage of the Okada riders and the hearse with caution to adhere to the Covid-19 preventive protocol and President Akufo Addo’s directive on private burial.
