Nana Bafour Kwame Ofori II, chief of Akyem Apoli Beposo, has likened the country’s economic plight and severe suffering to to the biblical story of the Israelites’ 400-year bondage in Egypt.
According to the Chief,his people are suffering,however, expressed hope for a divine intervention to rescue Ghana from its hardships.
“Like how Moses was sent by God to rescue the Israelites, I believe, that day will come for us too.We are in slavery and we need a savior”
The chief praised the NDC for their infrastructural developments, particularly noting the construction of a road to his community.
“If not for NDC, no car could have come here. It is NDC that constructed the road to this community,” he stated.
He added “It is mostly under NDC governments that we see rehabilitation of the road because you constructed it and know its importance to the people.Now the road is in deplorable condition”.
The Member of Parliament for Akyem Swedru Constituency Hon. Kennedy Osei Nyarko accompanied by Deputy Minister of Roads and Highways Pamblin Jalulah in September 2023 cut sod for construction of Swedru, Aduasa Apoli and Beposo Roads .
The MP assured that construction will be completed within 14 months, however, the contractor abandoned site after constructing parts of the drainage system.
This has made the road almost unmotorable, particularly, whenever it rains.
Nana Bafour also appealed for support in constructing a teachers’ bungalow to address the housing shortage that has led to a mass exodus of teachers from the community.
“Courtesy of the government, we had about 14 teachers posted here, but due to lack of accommodation, almost all have left. The community has initiated a project to construct a teachers’ bungalow because the government failed to intervene. Now we have molded about 3,000 plus blocks. We know the importance of education, so we plead with you to support this project,” he urged.
Nana Bafour said this during a visit by Deputy National Women’s Organizer Abigail Elorm Akwambea Mensah and the Regional Women’s Wing led by Shirley Naana Ampem as part of ongoing outreach program by the wing.
