A bereaved family is up in arms with a private mortuary facility at Tinkong in Akuapem North Municipality in Eastern region over missing corpse.
The body of the late Dora Boateng, 67, was not found Friday December 2, 2022, when the family went to the morgue to take it for burial.
Managers of the facility said the body might have been mistakenly exchanged with another by a bereaved family among the dozens that had earlier come for their corpse hence tracing to identify whereabout of the corpse.
The bereaved family has however reported the incident to Akropong district Police command.
Meanwhile the incident has disrupted the funeral rite at Koforidua Ada kyeremanteng school park where undertaker was waiting to prepare the corpse for burial.
Members of the bereaved family and few sympathizers have been left stranded at the funeral ground.
Food and drinks almost going waste as other sympathizers from far distances who heard the incident did not turn up to the funeral.
A member of the family who spoke under anonymity told Bryt FM the family will take legal action against the mortuary facility if the body is not found.
“Elders of the family are still tracing the whereabouts of the corpse .We have been told they are currently at Akropong Akuapem hoping to see the body. This is certainly wrong. The mortuary facility must solely take the blame because the family has been going there intermittently to check on the body.Just last week they were there so how come the body is missing. For the family ,even of the corpse is buried fresh we will exhume to rebury here. Unless the body has been buried over a week and decomposing even that we will know what to do.
He continued “the family will not hesitate to take legal action against the mortuary if the body is not found”. He said.
