Internally Generated Funds (IGF) is very critical to the development of various Districts and Municipalities in Ghana.
However, many assemblies are performing poorly in this regard. One of such assemblies is Upper Manya Krobo District in the Eastern Region.
Between the period of January and October this year, the assembly collected only three hundred and seventy-seven thousand, two hundred and eighty-seven Ghana cedis (GHc 377,287.00) far below its target.
Ironically, during the same period, the total expenditure of the Assembly was four hundred and thirty-seven thousand, eight hundred and twenty-eight Ghana cedis, thirty-nine Pesewas (GHc 437,828.39) representing 41 points 03 per cent of the annual internally generated fund expenditure projection of One million and sixty-seven thousand, one hundred and forty Ghana Cedis, thirty-nine Pesewas ( GHc 1,067,140.39).
The new District Chief Executive for Upper Manya Krobo, Joe Sam has therefore vowed to change the status quo through effective and efficient revenue collection measures to improve revenue generation.
The measures, he said, include resuscitation of the revenue task force, the procurement and installation of revenue software and the engagement of more revenue collectors.
The DCE made the call at the Third Ordinary Meeting of the Assembly at Asesewa in the Eastern Region.
Mr Sam said, he has no intention to witch hunt staff of the Assembly neither seek to transfer anyone from the district because of their religious, tribal or political affiliation.
“What is important is to encourage the workers to be dedicated to working, committed, punctual, skilful and useful to bring out the best in them for the betterment of the district”.
He however warned that he will not entertain any sabotage.
He, therefore, reminded all other stakeholders including the traditional authorities of their obligations for the betterment of the people and the district at large.
Mr Sam assured the business community of facilitating the creation and resuscitation of a vibrant business environment towards the economic growth of the district for accelerated development and job creation.
