The decomposing body of a man believed to be between 35 to 40 years of age has been found floating on the Atimpoku stretch of the Volta River in Asuogyaman District of the Eastern Region.
The body was detected Sunday, March 7, 2021, at the Akwamu Asafo community near the Adomi Bridge.
A team of Police Personnel, Environmental Health Officers, and personnel of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) went to the scene and with the support of the Unit Committee and local fishermen; the body was retrieved at about 10:30am.
Upon further consultation, the team secured a death certificate from the VRA Hospital and buried the body due to its decomposing state.
The identity of the deceased who was wearing a top brown T-shirt and black trousers was not known.
Many dead bodies are intermittently found floating on the Volta River known for various recreational activities.
