Lawyer Isaac Minta Larbi who is the Chairman of Eastern regional Legal Team of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has gone ahead to bring his vision dubbed “Green Okere Project” into fruition despite losing the parliamentary primaries .
During the parliamentary primaries, Lawyer Isaac Minta Larbi put forward his vision to Green Okere to create jobs, provide reliable income, increase the GDP of Okere, and make Okere the Tree Crop Basket of Ghana.
However, he lost the internal election by 80 votes.
In spite of his lost, Lawyer Isaac Minta Larbi recently secured 1,500 rubber plants from a Rubber Company having acquired large tracts of farmlands to implement the project.
The first batch of 1,500 rubber plants have been planted at Asifaw, in Awukugua State in Okere District.
“Rubber farming is a very expensive project to start but lucrative. It takes a very committed person to inject such huge amount of money into such a project. This is a demonstration of my wherewithal to change the fortunes of Okere and despite the fact that i lost the elections by only 80 votes it has not affected me in anyway .I am still pumping money into Okere through different investments opportunities which is providing jobs and income to Okere people”.
He stated that” in all of these different stages of the planting, indigenes of Okere were hired to provide labour for the weeding, clearing, preparing, pegging, digging and the actual planting of the rubber trees”.
The Green Okere Project centers around making Okere the Tree Crop Basket of Ghana which focuses on the establishment of plantation farms for rubber, coconut, Mango, etc on a larger scale so the indigenes can have jobs, reliable source of income, reduce poverty whilst at the same time creating a green forestation for the Okere community.
