Democratic Health Team made up of volunteer clinicians sympathetic to the opposition National Democratic Congress, NDC, has been commended for providing first aid and emergency healthcare services at the party’s parliamentary and presidential primaries in the Eastern region.
The health team of Doctors, Nurses, laboratory, and Emergency Technicians provided free health services to delegates and attended to some emergency cases during the weekend’s Presidential and Parliamentary Primaries held May 13, 2023.
National President of Democratic Health Team Kingsford Osei Boafo said the medical intervention was made in anticipation of emergency situations in relation to the elections.
He observed that some delegates and aspirants sometimes faint from shocks of defeat or fatigue therefore the medical team and ambulance service are on standby in most of the voting centers to handle such cases.
“Democratic Health Team comprise of nurses, doctors, and health practitioners who work in the health sectors and the main objective is to help bring health care to the doorsteps of our grassroots party members. Normally whenever there are elections going on like this there have been happenings of emergency care. So for that reason, we decided that we will set up a health care team so that they will take care of any emergency and other screening services.”
He added “We came in here purposely for emergency services but people are coming in to do health screening like eye care, ear care and other health conditions so we are providing them those services as well”
The team attended to hundreds of delegates in New Juaben North and South constituencies in the Eastern Region during the polls.
Prof Ernest Opoku Antwi one of the aspirants who lost the primaries in New Juaben North Constituency commended the health team for the novelty.
He said health is wealth therefore instituting health screening exercise as part of the primaries was laudable.
