Residents of Effiduase in the New Juaben North municipality of the Eastern Region have raised serious concerns about the lack of access to potable water in their community. According to them, the situation has persisted for years, with some residents claiming they have been without reliable water supply for as long as six years, while others say the problem has lasted nearly two decades.
The community members described water as “life” and stressed that, lack of it (water) is affecting their daily activities and overall well-being. Some lamented that even when water flows through their pipes, it can take between two to three months before supply resumes after being cut off.
Currently, many households rely on private wells, where they are compelled to buy water at a high cost. However, residents noted that this option is also unreliable since well owners decide when to open or close access, leaving many without water for days.
They also expressed worry that the high cost of purchasing water from individuals is a burden on families already struggling financially.
Residents emphasized that Effiduase and many other communities in the Eastern Region face similar challenges with water access.
They are, therefore, appealing to the government and relevant authorities to intervene and provide a sustainable solution to end their suffering.
