Farmers at Tsremati Yoyim in the Yilo Krobo Municipality of the Eastern Region have embarked on a demonstration over the absence of road network to the community.
The daring farmers defied suspension of Public gatherings and social distancing to demonstrate after the death of a young girl. Residents believe the absence of a road which delayed emergency health service for her caused her death midway while being carried at the back to the hospital.
The farmers say the situation is having a negative effect on Agriculture which is their source of livelihood.
Tsremati Yoyim and its surrounding farming communities numbering about fifteen are known to be major producers of farm produce to Nkurakan Market however there is no access road to link these communities to the market center.
These areas are known for the cultivation of vegetables, cassava, maize, yam, plantain, Cocoyam, cocoa among others.
One of the opinion leaders Amanor Tetteh said, farmers, particular women, and children had to carry foodstuffs on their heads to market centers through a high rocky mountain.
Due to this, many farm produce rot in bush.
According to the residents, governments have failed them after repeatedly promising to construct a road to link the communities.
They have threatened to boycott the 2020 election if the road is not constructed.
