A fierce fire on Monday evening
completely ravaged the residence of the housemaster at Oyoko Methodist Senior High School (OMESS) in Koforidua, Eastern Region, destroying property worth thousands of cedis.
The incident, which occurred around 6:30 PM, reduced the entire bungalow to ruins — destroying the roof, ceiling, furniture, electronics, clothing, and other personal belongings belonging to the housemaster and his family.
According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the blaze was contained before it could spread to the nearby boys’ dormitory, which was at serious risk due to the proximity of the buildings.
The GNFS received the emergency call at 6:24 PM and dispatched two fire engines.
The first team arrived at 6:34 PM, brought the flames under control by 7:24 PM, and fully extinguished the fire by 8:29 PM.
No casualty recorded.

Initial assessments point to an electrical fault within the ceiling of the residence as the likely cause, though a full investigation is ongoing.
The school administration is coordinating with emergency authorities to support the affected staff member, while arrangements are being made to secure temporary accommodation.
