Five (5) dead bodies including three(3) children have been retrieved from Afram River following canoe disaster on Wednesday November 8, 2023.
The tragedy unfolded around 7:20 pm as 12 individuals, identified as farm laborers, attempted to cross from Kyireba to Burger Akura along the Afram River.
This group consisted of 2 male adults, 4 female adults, and 6 female children.
Unfortunately, the canoe capsized during their journey.
Out of the 12 people involved, six, including 2 male adults, 1 female adult, and 3 female children, managed to escape the tragic fate and were successfully rescued.
Regrettably, three (3) children and three(3) adults went missing in the incident.
A collaborative rescue team comprising NADMO, the police, and local fishermen swiftly initiated a rescue operation on Thursday, successfully recovering five bodies, including three children, from the river, according to Stephen Afram ,Afram Plains South District NADMO Director.
As the community grapples with this heartbreaking event, active efforts are underway to retrieve the last missing person.
