A joint team of Forestry Commission and Police personnel are expected to storm Obuor Nkrumah Forest this morning in Afram Plains to destroy arguably, the largest cannabis farm detected in a forest reserve.
It is not clear if the joint team could be able to destroy the entire cannabis farm which is reported to be about 80 hectares large in a single day.
Meanwhile, the Afram Plains North District Court on Monday remanded the five suspects arrested by Forestry Officials during an operation in the forest.
The suspects are Michael Anakpo, a teacher at Donkorkrom Agric Senior High School said to be the leader of, Blewu Nomenyo, Korsi Mawuena, Charles Kale, and Emmanuel Kojo.
They will reappear in court on Wednesday, August 17, 2022.
The Afram Plains North District office of the Forestry Commission of Ghana in the Eastern region arrested the five suspects including a Senior High School teacher whilst working on about 80 hectares of cannabis farm inside the forest on Friday, August 12, 2022.
More than ten other suspects met on the cannabis farm however managed to escape after an attempted attack on the forestry officials.
The Forestry operation team led by the District Forestry Manager Richard Amoateng retrieved 3 big sacks, and 6 mini sacks of the harvested Cannabis, 5 Plastic water containers filled with harvested cannabis, cutlasses, alcohol laced with cannabis, and many others.
The suspects had also nursed many seedlings of cannabis to be planted.
The team also counted about 13 tents on the farm that accommodated them.
They had also erected a warning sign “Don’t attempt”
