All market centers in the Eastern region will on Saturday 4th April 2020 benefit from fumigation exercise being initiated across the country.
All 33 MMDAs with the exception of Nsawam/Adoagyiri (already fumigated) in the region will have every market sprayed to ensure the markets are in good health against any disease.
The exercise has become necessary following the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in the country with 205 confirmed cases recorded, resulting in five deaths.
Speaking to the New Juaben North Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Madam Comfort Asante, she indicated her outfit preparedness to ensuring the success of the exercise as all arrangements had been done.
She added that, the leadership of the various markets have already had a fruitful deliberations on the exercise and that she is expecting traders to go by all measures being put in place by the Assembly and other stakeholders.
“We have met with the leadership of the various markets within the municipality to deliberate on the exercise and I must say that they are all in support of it. We have asked them to cover up all their products in the market so the workers doing the fumigation would have easy access in executing their mandate well” the MCE stated.
Madam Comfort Asante, however, revealed her outfit had already provided basic materials such as Veronica buckets, soaps, sanitizers to all public places and vantage points across the municipality so as to give easy access to the public to wash their hands under running water as recommended by authorities.
She emphasized the Assembly is poised to the health needs of the people and pledged her outfit’s commitment to the help in the improvement of sanitation in order to do away with its related diseases, especially as the rains sets in.
