Koforidua circuit court ‘B” presided over by Mrs. Mercy Adei-Kotei has jailed three young men to 20 years imprisonment each for defiling and attempting to murder a 14-year girl.
The convicts; Yaw Preko, 25-year-old Cobbler; Adamu, 19-year-old driver’s mate; Awudu Kamilu, 18-year-old Head Porter, all residents of Nkawkaw in the Kwahu East District of the Eastern region.
Their two other accomplices Junior and Sarfo, are however at large.
The facts of the case presented to the court by Assistant State Attorney Mr. Dickson Donkor was that on March 5, 2017, at about 2:00pm, the 14-year-old victim who was an iced-water seller at the Nkawkaw Lorry Park was returning from the house of one Isaac who had promised her some money to help in her iced-water business.
She met Yaw Preko -the first accused on the way to which he proposed love to her but the victim refused the proposal.
Yaw Preko then called the four other accomplices who trailed the victim, forcibly covered her mouth with their hands, and abducted her into a nearby bush.
The five accused persons forcibly put the victim on the muddy ground, removed her pant, and had sexual intercourse with her in turns until the victim became restless.
Yaw Preko suggested that they kill the victim which Adams, the 19-year-old driver’s mate “strangulate “the victim and dumped her in the bush thinking she was dead.
Fortunately, the complainants, in this case, Mr. Kofi Boateng and Yaw Duah, both drivers at the Nkawkaw new lorry station appeared at the crime scene and found the victim lying and gasping for breath
They rescued her to the police station where a medical form was issued and she was sent to the hospital for emergency treatment.
Police investigation led to the arrest of three convicts but two other accomplices managed to escape.
They were charged with the offenses of defilement and conspiracy to commit a crime with murder.
They pleaded not guilty in court but after three years of trial, the court found the three accused persons guilty and sentenced them accordingly.
According to the Police, efforts are still underway to arrest the two accomplices at large.
