A head-on collision between a DAF trailer and Kia Rhino trucks on the Suhum stretch of the Accra to Kumasi Highways of the Eastern Region has led to the death of two persons (2) leaving one other badly injured.
The bodies of the deceased persons have been deposited at the morgue while the injured is receiving treatment.
The accident happened on February 17, 2021, at about 2:40pm when a driver driving a DAF trailer truck with registration number AW 9559-13 from Kumasi towards Accra direction.
On reaching a section of the road at Apeatu near Suhum on the Accra-Kumasi highway, he veered from his lane onto the opposite lane and crashed head-on with a Kia Rhino truck with registration number AE 864-12 with two persons on board loaded with an unspecified quantity of car batteries which was coming from Accra direction.
The two persons onboard the Kia Rhino truck were trapped to death.
Their bodies were extricated and deposited at Suhum Government Hospital mortuary for preservation, identification, and autopsy.
The Kia Rhino truck driver sustained an injury and was rushed to the same hospital for treatment.
Accident vehicles have been towed from the scene to a safer place for the free flow of traffic.
