There is apprehension among some midwives at the Maternity Ward of the Eastern Regional Hospital in Koforidua after they got exposed to the Covid-19 positive case left to their fate.
The patient was on admission at the ward for days before she was tested positive last week.
Immediately, all other patients who were at the ward with index cases were relocated neither for quarantine however the midwives who got exposed were informed about the situation neither quarantined nor samples taken.
The Midwives some nursing mothers and pregnant women continue to report to work in anxiety.
Mybrytfmonline.com has gathered that Management in Charge of the Hospital say they will take the samples of the exposed midwives after 14 days of the incident but has not communicated to the affected staff.
Another concern raised is that taking the samples after 14 days means the exposed staff would have to wait for another week before results released worsening their condition should any test positive.
Meanwhile, they continue to attend to other patients.
The Eastern Regional Hospital refused to ease Working hours for pregnant women and nursing mothers particularly those with the Maternity Ward as they continue to attend to patients endangering their lives and that of both birthed and unborn babies.
Already 248 health workers in the Eastern Region have tested positive out of which one has died. The numbers represent 37% of total cases of 668 recorded in the Eastern Region.
