Assailants who murdered Kwabena Kumi Aeronautic Engineer with African World Airline (AWA) at Akyem Asuboa near Akyem Oda in the Eastern Region three years ago, have been arrested by Police
The suspects arrested are Joseph Kwasi Effah alias Kwasi Tailor ,Kwabena Akwaah,45, and Kwasi Bosompem Mensah,58, all members of the local community watch dog committee.
The prime suspect -Joseph Kwasi Effah alias Kwasi Tailor has told Police that he mistook the deceased for a pig and shot him with his locally manufactured single barrel gun .
He explained that, he was assigned together with his colleague Kwabena Akwaah ,45 to patrol Asuboa bungalow to Cannan junction as community watchdog members.
He said, their patrol took them to Dabiso junction at about 1:35pm but he heard the sound of pig in a nearby bush where he shot at the direction but they later realized that the he has shot human being .Out of fear ,he and his colleague absconded without informing anyone.
Kwabena Akwaah the accomplice was also arrested on April 19,2021 but he also implicated one Kwasi Bosompem Mensah as a colleague who was on duty with them when Kwasi Tailor shot and killed the Engineer hence he was also arrested
The suspects were put before Oda Magistrate Court on Tuesday April 20,2021 and have been remanded into Police Custody on April 27,2021.
Prince Kwabena Kumi was shot and killed by unknown assailants on April 1,2018 while driving to celebrate Easter with his mother at Akyem Asuboa community.
Preliminary investigations by the Eastern Regional Police Command into the suspected murder of the 34-year old aircraft engineer with Africa World Airlines [AWA], Prince Kobina Kumi, revealed that he was shot twice, in his jaw and his chest
He was found dead on Monday between Akroso and Asuboa with bullet wounds after the police seized his car over suspected drink-driving.
According to the Eastern Regional Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Ebenezer Tetteh,
“Preliminary investigations at the scene of the crime indicated that he was shot on the jaw and the chest, and he was left at the scene where he was found on Monday,” he said.
Togbe Afede XIV, the founder and co-chairman of Africa World Airlines called for an expeditious investigation into the circumstances that led to the murder of Prince Kwabena Kumi, an aircraft maintenance engineer of the airline.
Togbe made the call on Tuesday, April 11, when he led a delegation of the airlines’ executives and relatives of the late engineer to meet with then Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. David Asante-Apeatu. In his opening remarks, Togbe expressed his gratitude to the IGP and the entire police service for the tremendous efforts they have been making, with limited resources, to ensure public safety, and encouraged them to continue to work hard for the good of society.
In his response, Mr. Asante-Apeatu thanked Togbe Afede XIV for the honour of the visit and promised to work hard to unravel the mystery surrounding the death of the engineer.
