Students from New Juaben Senior High School (SHS) and Koforidua Secondary Technical School (SECTEC) clashed once more, escalating an ongoing rivalry between the two schools.
Around 7:30 pm on November 17, 2023, approximately 10 male students, believed to be from New Juaben SHS, were seen wielding cutlasses, machetes, and clubs pursuing a SECTECH student in what appeared to be a retaliatory attack.
The targeted SECTECH student sought refuge in a nearby house and was eventually rescued by a compassionate individual driving a private car.
For safety reasons, the student was dropped off near the Koforidua Technical University traffic light.
The aggressors from New Juaben SHS claimed that some SECTECH students had attacked their colleagues the previous day, prompting their reprisal.
The longstanding rivalry between the two schools continues to escalate into violent clashes.
Earlier in May, the Board and Management of SECTECH had indefinitely suspended 85 students after a brutal attack on students and teachers from New Juaben Senior High School.
The assault, which occurred on May 14, 2023, left four New Juaben SHS students and the school’s chaplain severely injured. The police arrested four SECTECH students in connection with the incident.
The recent clash raises concerns about the persistent tension between the two schools, emphasizing the need for intervention to restore peace.
