The District Chief Executive of Kwahu East District Assembly of the Eastern Region Hon. Isaac Agyapong has commissioned a new District office building for Kwahu -East NHIS.
The Okwawuman Health Insurance Scheme was established on the 30th of November 2001 with support from the Danish International Development Agency (DANIDA).
It was later absorbed by the National Health Insurance Scheme in 2003 at Mpreaso. It covered residents of all the then Kwahu South District which included Kwahu West, and Kwahu East Districts.
After the establishment of Kwahu West Municipality in 2004 and Kwahu East District in 2007, both of which were carved out of Kwahu South District, it became imperative to separate the Schemes. As a result, Kwahu West Municipality was assigned a District office in Nkawkaw, while residents of Kwahu East District continued to receive Health Insurance services from the Mpreaso NHIS office.
Having been established as a District and the dispersed nature of the area. The establishment of the office here in Abetifi will bring the NHIS registration process closer to our constituents, leading to a rise in sign-ups.
The district will also now assume full responsibility for the scheme and take it to the next level.
Hon . Isaac Agyapong commended the effort of Dr. Ernest K.P Kwarko, the Board Chairman NHIA, Dr. Bernard Okoe Boye, CEO NHIA, Hon.Dr. Bryan Acheampong, MP and Minister of Food and Agticulture and all relevant stakeholders who supported in diverse ways in making this possible.
