Mampong Akwapim Traditional Council and the Akwapim North Municipal Assembly of the Eastern Region have lockdown the community on Thursday, 16th April 2020.
According to the Apesemakahene of Mampong Akwiapim, Nana Yirenkyi I, the decision became necessary due to the COVID-19 pandemic terrorizing the country and the world at large.
He disclosed this to Bryt FM news, indicating that, during the lockdown, only food sellers are allowed to open their shops.
He said, there is the need for residents to stay at home since anybody found flouting the orders shall be prosecuted by the law.
Apesemakahene Nana Yirenkyi l hinted that “we are doing this with the Ghana Police service and the military so if anyone fails to comply with this protocol, he or she will be dealt with appropriately”.
He further noted that the Traditional Council and the Assembly are doing this to avoid the spread of COVID-19 to the area.
There have been several calls by some experts on the need to lock down the region due to the fast spread of the disease as the President is expected to update Ghanaians over the weekend.
