A 35-year-old man has sustained severe burns after gunpowder in his pocket caught fire while firing musketry at a funeral at Aburi -Gyankama in the Eastern Region.
The funeral was for the late Nana Osae Akoto XI, Amankrado of Gyankama.
According to the Public Relations Officer of the Eastern Regional Police Command DSP Ebenezer Tetteh, while the funeral of the late Nana Osae Akoto (XI), the Omankrado of Gyankama near Aburi was ongoing with the arrival of chiefs at about 5:00pm from various traditional areas amidst the firing of musketry.
The gunfire by the victim ignited the many gun powder which was in the pocket of one Charles Akonor who sustained serious injuries.
“The report was that gunfire in his pocket caught off fire whilst the victim was firing the musketry, he was quickly rescued and the gunfire was put off”.
The victim who is 35 years old from Akosombo was rushed to Tetteh Quarshie Memorial hospital and admitted.
According to a doctor’s report, he suffered major burns on his stomach, chest, back, hands, and neck.
After the initial assessment, he was referred to the Eastern Regional Hospital for intensive care and he is currently receiving treatment.
