Church Elders and Members of the Assemblies of God Church at Akyem Maase in the Abuakwa North Municipality of the Eastern region are stranded after a man believed to be mentally ill wielding a machete invaded and seized the church building threatening to kill anyone who attempted to step foot into the Church.
The suspect reportedly stormed the Church building after it was opened to worshipers Sunday morning.
The incident attracted many residents to the scene who tried to overpower and eject the suspect from the Church building.
He hacked the hand of one person who attempted to get him out.
A resident who identified himself as Isaac told Kwabena Appiah host of the Sunday morning program on Bryt FM that, the victim has been rushed to Akyem Tafo Government Hospital.
Police from Akyem Tafo had a tough time to overpower the suspect despite firing teargas into the Church building to smoke him out.
The suspect is currently in Police custody but demanding he is served with a bottle of Coke and biscuit as well as fried rice.
The suspect is a native of Akyem Maase who lived in Accra but returned to the community three days ago.
Upon arrival, he started exhibiting characters portraying mental illness.
He allegedly pulled cutlass on his family members including his sick mother forcing them to desert their homes yesterday which he subsequently set fire to the cloths on the compound of the house.
Before that, he has cut down all plantain plantations around his family house.
