One person has died while about 22 others have sustained injuries in a fatal accident involving a Metro Mass Transit Bus from Koforidua to Osenase in the Eastern Region.
According to the local Police, it received information on November 29, 2020, at 6:00 pm that there was an accident involving a Metro Mass Transit Bus on the bridge of river Supon at Osenase along Asamankese – Kade road.
Police proceeded to the scene of the accident and found the said bus with registration Number GG 3973- 09 lying across the bridge blocking the road from the flow of traffic.
Some of the passengers on board the bus with various injuries had already been sent to hospitals for treatments.
Road crashes Investigators extended their investigations to St. Dominic hospital in Akwatia were eight (8) victims including suspect driver Asante Robert, aged 45 years were met with various injuries receiving treatment
The suspect driver indicated to police that he was in charge of the Metro bus with about sixty (60) passengers from Koforidua heading towards Tiakama Nkwanta on Osenase – Oda road.
However, on reaching a section of the road at Osenase River Supon, while descending the hill to the bridge lost control of the steering and hit the wall of the bridge and finally landed across it and blocked the road from both sides.
Police proceeded to Osenase health center and found eight (8), other victims, with minor injuries receiving treatments
Police also visited the Asamankese government hospital where six (6) victims were met with injuries receiving treatments.
The seventh victim Zinabu Dauda aged about 33 years was pronounced dead on arrival.
The Body was deposited at the same hospital’s morgue for autopsy.
The Bus has since been towed enabling the free flow of traffic.
The Acting Public Relations Officer of the Eastern Regional Police Command Sargeant Francis Gomado says the investigation is ongoing into the accident.
