A benevolent Association in Ghana with about 200 membership both in Ghana and abroad called ‘Millionaires Club’ has admonished government to initiate a policy in support of the development of orphanage homes in Ghana.
The group leader Love Kyeremateng made the admonishing during a visit to Hour of Grace Children’s Home and Akwadum Christian Center two orphanage homes in the Eastern region to donate food items, water , learning materials , soft drinks in support of the wellbeing of the orphans.
Love Kyeremateng condemned the act of child neglect and abandonment by some parents saying it leaves huge burden and responsibility on orphanage homes in Ghana.
She said “as a group our vision is to support the vulnerable in society like these children we see today, but we encourage women or couple to desist from the act of neglecting their children if not as a result of death because these children could grow to become the greatest asset to the family or the nation at large”
“I therefore on behalf of Millionaires Club Koforidua want to appeal to government, all individuals particularly Ghanaians in abroad to join this club in order to enable us effectively undertake our mission of supporting the vulnerable like this children in the orphanage homes” she noted.
Additionally Love Kyeremateng revealed that the club operates in Koforidua, Kumasi and Sunyani and receives support from Millionaires abroad to undertake its charity work.
As part of its charity work, Love Kyeremateng stressed that the club intends to extend same support to some prisons centres in the region and across the country this year.
A Veteran Actress/ TV Show Personality in Ghana Harriet Naa Ocantey popularly known as Auntie B a member of the club also indicated that child neglect or abandonment could be a major contributing factor of social vices hence must be of a great concern to the nation.
She said “the name of the club doesn’t suggest we have everything or don’t face financial constraint but because we believe in extending support to the least privileged and the vulnerable in our society that is the reason why we are donating to Hour of Grace Children’s Home and Akwadum Christian Center today in the Eastern region”
“Listening to the manager and the founder of this orphanage homes you will appreciate the pivotal role Orphanage Homes play in nurturing and sustaining lives of abandoned children so I will take this opportunity to appeal to the entire country to voluntarily extend support of all forms to these orphanage homes occasionally because they go through a lot to nurture these children” she added.
Finally, the Founder also the Manager of Hour of Grace Children’s Home Mr. Lawrence Gbehor after receiving the donated items expressed deep gratitude to Millionaires Club Koforidua for the generous gesture towards the orphans.
Mr. Lawrence Gbehor recounted the success story of three orphans who have graduated as nurses as well as one other graduating with first class at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology just recently all due to the intervention of Hour of Grace Children’s Home.
Mrs. Christiana Dautey the PRO for the group also reiterated the group intention to undertake similar gesture in other places across the country.
