Eastern Regional Minister, Hon. Seth Acheampong and a delegation from University of Environment and Sustainable Development (UESD) in Somanya have visited site earmarked for the construction of a satellite campus of the University at Donkorkrom in the Kwahu Afram Plains North District in the Eastern Region.
The Minister, who was accompanied by the Vice – Chancellor, Prof. Eric Nyarko-Sampson intimated that the purpose of the visit was to formally acquire the land by way of documentation for the construction of the satellite campus which shall host the School of Agriculture and Entrepreneurship Development.
The Vice – Chancellor of UESD Prof. Eric Nyarko-Sampson refuted claims that the Donkorkrom Campus have been relocated.
He intimated that employment of indigenes of the District would be part of the project when it starts.
The DCE for Kwahu Afram Plains North. Hon. Isaac Ofori-Koree thanked the Regional Minister and his team as the visit has brought to finality issues regarding the Donkorkrom Campus. He appealed to all to help this project to be a success.
Kwahu Bukruwa chief, Nana Akuamoah Tanor II expressed his joy that efforts have started to establish the much awaited university campus.
He however appealed to the Regional Minister to consider converting one of the Senior High school into a Teacher Training college as that will help ameliorate the shortage of teachers in the district.
The chief urged the Minister to improve the road infrastructure in the District.
He said the deplorable state of the road makes it difficult for would be investors to invest in the District.
The other members of the Regional Minister’s entourage included the Pro Vice Chancellor as well as the Chairman of the University Council Prof. Johnathan Narh Ayertey and the Ag Pro Vice Chancellor Prof Edward Wiafe Debrah.
The NDC and its minority in Parliament has accused the governing NPP for relocating Donkorkrom satellite Campus of UESD planned to be established ,to Bunso.
Government however refuted the claims stating that, there was no agreement in the contract signed by former President John Dramani Mahama led government that secured Exim bank loan for the construction of the University ,for a satellite Donkorkrom campus.
